What is the Youth Council?

The Youth Council is the voice for young people who live, study or work in the London Borough of Hillingdon

Young people meet together to discuss issues that are important to them. organise social events, residentials, conferences and day trips.

Our aim is to make Hillingdon a better place for young people.

 

How often do we meet?

The Youth Council meets every month, or according to demand. at the Civic Centre, High Street, Uxbridge.

 

Some of the activities we get involved in include:

  • We held a workshop with local MP's where we had question and answer sessions and discussions on citizenship, democracy and representation.
  • We are currently setting up a website and monthly newsletter
  • We held auditions in the Civic Centre for young people to sing on a CD single for charity
  • We plan to meet with other Youth Councils in London and nationally , resulting in shared events
  • We are planning a conference where Hillingdon's young people can voice their concerns to local MPs and Councillors
  • We held a "Fun Day" to celebrate the UN Ceasefire day "Peace One Day"
  • We sent representatives to various conferences including the UKYP National Sitting and the Britain in Europe conference on the Euro.

The UK Youth Parliament

Hillingdon Youth Council fully supports the work of the UK Youth Parliament. Our current Members of Youth Parliament (MYPs) are Fran Carey and Craig Edmunds.

They regularly attend regional meetings to discuss issues affecting boroughs across London. They have recently attended the UK Youth Parliament National Sitting.
